Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026.
This policy explains how TootCast handles information. TootCast is an iPhone and iPad app for couples to record and share a bedtime forecast. Forecasts are self-reported; the app does not provide automatic predictions or medical assessments.
Summary
TootCast is local-first. It requires no developer account, operates no developer-run cloud sync service, and does not sell personal information. Your forecasts, responses, and usage records are not automatically uploaded to developer servers. Cloud sync and partner sharing use Apple iCloud / CloudKit.
Information the App Stores
The app may store information you create, authorize, or need to use its features, including:
- Your forecast level, date, time zone, and update time.
- Preset responses you send and identifiers linking them to a forecast.
- The invitation email, participant display information, and technical identifiers for your iCloud account and sharing relationship.
- Language, sharing preferences, notification preferences, and bedtime reminder times.
- Local caches of your partner’s shared content, and state needed for syncing, retries, clearing records, ending sharing, and preventing duplicate notifications.
Local data stays in the app’s storage on your device. The app provides no forecast history list, but sync state and an older current snapshot may remain until updated or cleared.
iCloud Sync and Invitations
Cloud features use your Apple Account to access iCloud / CloudKit. Your own records and pairing state are stored in your private iCloud database. An authorized partner reads shared content through CloudKit sharing. The app does not ask you to give the developer your Apple Account password.
When inviting a partner, the app sends the email you enter to Apple to find the iCloud sharing participant, and may retain it in pairing state. Sharing permissions are established after both people explicitly confirm mutual sharing. Apple provides iCloud; its processing is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy and relevant service information.
How Information Is Used
- Display your and your partner’s current forecasts and responses.
- Establish, verify, sync, and end the sharing relationship you authorize.
- Save preferences, handle offline changes, and prevent duplicate or outdated notifications.
- Provide partner activity notifications and bedtime reminders when enabled.
This information supports app features and is not used to build advertising profiles.
Information Sharing and Your Controls
TootCast does not sell personal information. Your forecasts and responses are provided through your authorized partner-sharing relationship; your partner cannot edit your personal records. Apple processes information needed for cloud sync and sharing.
You can pause sharing, end the relationship, or clear your own records. Pausing only stops new forecast and response uploads from this device; previously shared content may remain visible. Ending the relationship revokes that sharing relationship but keeps your own forecast. Clearing removes your own forecast and sent responses, not your partner’s records. These actions cannot retrieve screenshots or copies your partner saved separately.
Notifications and System Permissions
Partner notifications and bedtime reminders require system notification permission. Partner updates use Apple’s push notification service and CloudKit; these services process device push identifiers needed for delivery. Partner activity notifications use generic text without names, forecast levels, or response details. Bedtime bedroom summaries may show the combination of both forecast levels, without names or response details.
You can adjust notification preferences and reminder times in the app, and manage notification permission and iCloud use in system settings. Delivery may be delayed, and not every background update produces an immediate notification.
Analytics, Advertising, and Diagnostics
The current app includes no third-party analytics, advertising tracking, or third-party crash-reporting SDKs, and sends no usage analytics to developer servers. Local device diagnostics and Apple’s system diagnostics are separate processes. Diagnostics you choose to share with Apple are governed by your system settings and Apple’s relevant policies.
If analytics, crash reporting, developer cloud services, or other features that change data handling are added, we will update this policy before those features are used.
Data Retention and Deletion
The app retains local records, caches, and state needed to operate until they are updated, cleared through the relevant features, or removed with local app data when you delete the app. Hiding a previous day’s forecast does not mean its stored copy has been deleted.
Cloud operations to clear records or end sharing need a network connection. Offline or failed operations remain pending and are retried later. Clearing forecasts does not delete all settings or technical pairing state. Uninstalling the app alone does not clear iCloud records or revoke sharing.
Copies in device or cloud backups may remain according to Apple’s or another backup provider’s settings. Apple’s account and iCloud management tools offer available data-management options.
Children
TootCast is designed for everyday communication between couples and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information through developer services. If you believe a child’s personal information was provided to us, for example through support email, contact us below so we can investigate and handle a deletion request.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when app features or data-handling practices change. The date at the top of this page shows the most recent revision.
